Lee Roy Selmon's life story blends family football scholarship with volunteering for the community. The first line of his family was that his father was the youngest of nine kids who were raised within Eufala with Lucious Selmon. He played second in football and was one of three brothers who were players for Oklahoma. All three were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey was one of the starters for the entire 1973 season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. In three years, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy being the starting player. Also, they won the national title twice. Third scholarship he was named a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in educational studies. Lee Roy spent ten hours a week on volunteer work in his college days. In Tampa where he played, he joined the Buccaneers for nine seasons before becoming an all-pro. Additionally, he started a career in business. In 1988, he was an Account Representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also a part of the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 The Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Lee Roy as being among 10 of the most notable young males. As a student, Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighed about 256 pounds. He was captain of his college team in 1975. He was promoted to the athletic director's assistant at the University of South Florida. In 1988, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. He also made the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded its Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
